The Letter I Won't Send by ~amanders0991:iconamanders0991:

I fell in love with a stranger
His smile, his laugh, his voice
Captured me instantly
He saw through every defense I had
And I swore that when he reached the last one
I would let go

I fell in love with a stranger
And in ways, he fell in love with me
Best friends until change swept over us
I could not be the one to make him whole
So I became the one who retreated into shadows

I fell in love with a stranger
A stranger who became my unknowing Romeo
He thought he was a monster, but beauty shined throughout him
What he does not know, is that he has reached my last defense
I must let him go

It's for him. Find peace, love. I must let you go and vise versa. It's not bad, it's just change.

I refuse to be any less than myself. I will not be more than myself. I will simply be me, and at the end of the day, that is the best I can hope for.

Thank you. That means so much. :)

And thank you for adding it to your favorites.

You're welcome. =) I like poetry that doesn't feel like it has to have a rigid rhyme scheme and meter to be poetry.

I do too. A lot of the classical poetry has a rigid rhyme scheme and meter, but I feel that poetry is not always words on a page or screen. It is something that has the ability to move you, no matter what it is.

One of my all time favorite poets said this, and it holds true to this day.

"If I read a book and it makes my whole body so cold no fire can ever warm me, I know that is poetry." -Emily Dickinson

Poetry isn't rigid rhyme and meter, it is every emotion and thought that has the ability to inspire and move a person.

=) It's always nice to talk to somebody who looks beyond the shallow surface of a craft and sees it for what it is. Bravo! I've written a lot of poetry over the years, and I've tried out various rhyme schemes, meters, free-verse and even haiku. In the end I deal with poetry the same as I deal with artwork or prose--whatever format fits that particular idea the best, I make it in that format!
